Our King
King Abdullah II is the current king of Jordan. Born in 1962, King Abdullah succeeded his father King Hussein in 1999 when he died of cancer. Abdullah, Hussein's eldest son by his second wife, Princess Mona, was known as a military leader, serving as a major general in charge of Jordan's elite Special Forces. Abdullah’s affective ability to mend relations with Jordan’s neighbors put the minds of the people at ease. Abdullah was educated in Jordan, England, and the US. Among the schools he attended were Oxford and Georgetown. He is dedicated to having peace in the region like his father was. He continues peaceful relations with Israel while supporting a Palestinian state. King Abdullah aims to have a progressive economy and a strong military force. He was married in 1993 to Queen Rania al-Abdullah. They currently have 4 children. Crown Prince Hussein the eldest son was named successor in July 2009. The King presently is attempting to calm tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.
